It's time to enjoy city life at home

Whether you live in a shack near the Australian Outback, a lovely hut on a tropical island, a bungalow in suburban America, or a two-up-two-down in the outskirts of 'New Town, UK', there's never been a better time to decorate your home with original city wall art prints or paintings.

Over the past decade or so, there's been a massive boom in the field of digital photography, thanks in part to more affordable cameras, and of course to the increase in image quality that pretty much all of us now have from the cameras on our own phones. You've gotta love technology, eh?

You know what you want, now go get it!

So, what did you have in mind? Photograph or painting? Something with sharp, straight geometrical lines? Or perhaps something with more of a dream-like quality?

Were you considering any city in particular? One of the best place to check out is Etsy. They've got so many different photographers, with so many different styles. There are images of just about any city you can think of, and most likely some that you'd never even heard of.

For paintings, we're really into the work of Robert Mondoux at the moment, but we're discovering more and more artists around the web, some of whom we'll be featuring soon.

And of course, there's always Amazon. You'll very likely find something there that's just right to add that glamorous (or subtle) touch of city life to any room in your home.

Prices vary considerably, of course, but there's so much out there that will suit any family budget. And it's well worth the investment. Many photos are limited edition prints, and our friend Bob will actually commission a painting a photo of a city scene that you took yourself. Just imagine sitting in your favourite space, surrounded by city wall art that you either chose or photographed yourself.

  1. I've never really thought about having this sort of art myself. I've seen it in homes though. From an interior decoration standpoint are there any rooms that this type of artwork just wouldn't work well in?

      Hi Matt,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I think that if the colours, tone, and overall mood are chosen properly, city art can work in any environment. It doesn't have to be harsh, downtown skyscraper stuff; there are some gorgeous images of famous city parks, with soft pastel-ish colours.

But then, I guess some people are just not into the life in city - in which case, I guess this site isn't for them! 😉

  2. What a great idea to have a painting of a city scene photo you took yourself! The photo of the end result looks fantastic. I can imagine that this would be a great gift idea for may people - for example, perfect for decorating all those dorm rooms that will be newly occupied this month!

  3. This is a lovely idea. I tend to gravitate toward wall art that brings me back to the ocean, living as I do in the middle of the desert. I am sure with a tad of work I would find plenty of city/slash ocean scenes to play around with.

Thanks for the recommendations. Cool idea to have Bob work with a painting of something in my own cache of photos!

      Hi Linda,

Thanks for stopping by. There are lots of great cities that have both city and ocean views - as you know - and very often you can get both elements in the same shot.

You live in the middle of the desert? Oh dear. I'm a city boy; I could never do that!

You know what? Feel free to send some of your photos to us, and we can get Bob to have a look. No harm in asking him to have a look-see, right? If you want to, you can send them to: myphoto@cityedgescenes.com.

      Thanks again for your visit!
